Kawempe Ladies has been crowned Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Women Elite League Champions after edging Olila FC 1-0 at Philip Omondi Stadium Lugogo in Kampala to win their fourth title in a row.

The champions endured the heat in Lugogo to dominate the final from the first minute and it was midfielder Tracy Akiror who took advantage of a rebound at the edge of the box to score the opener in the 23rd minute.

In the second half of the well attended final, Kawempe forward Juliet Nalukenge had the chance to score the second goal for her side was denied by the woodwork in the 71st minute.

Olila playmaker, Alupo Norah, failed to have the best of her game in the entire 90 minutes having only one short on target thanks to the alertness and aggressiveness Kawempe’s defender and team captain Mariam Nakabugo.

The champions Kawempe received cash prize of UGX 12million for the feat whilst Olila went away with Ush.7million.

Meanwhile, in the third place playoff, Gafford beat Kampala Queens 1-0 thanks to Monica Namwasa’s strike in the 23rd Minute.

The final were graced by FUFA President Moses Magogo who urged the girls never to lose focus as there is a lot to achieve in women football than just the title.

“We have had a steady progress with the women elite league the fourth year in a raw and we are having a target never to give-up with the league as girls have to develop with consistency in order to compete on the continent” FUFA President  Moses Magogo.

The consistency in the league has seen Uganda compete in the qualifiers for the Total Women's Africa Cup of Nations Ghana 2018, losing to neighbours 1-0 on aggregate at the first round.

Youngster Tracy Akiror was voted the Most Valuable player with her lone strike that gave Kawempe the title because of her brilliancy in midfield to beat her opponents on several occasions and creating chances for strikers.

“I'm grateful we are champions again, I have worked hard as person and as a team to make sure we retain the title although it was very tight competition this time round, I now work towards maintaining my place on the National team” said Akiror Tracy
