South Sudan appoints Abdelmalek new coach

German Aït Ahcene Abdelmalek has been named head coach of the South Sudan national football team on a two-year deal.

 

Abdelmalek, who also has Algerian roots, has been tasked with improving the fortunes of the Bright Stars.

 

His first competitive will be the Total Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2019 qualifier against Mali in September 2018. South Sudan suffered a 3-0 loss to Burundi in their Group C opener last June.

 

Abdelmalek is no stranger to African football after previous stints with Burundi national and Algerian sides ASM Oran and JS Kabylie. He also had a short spell with Malian giants, Djoliba.
